The Jewish Cemetery Schönhauser Allee

The second Jewish cemetery was opened in 1827 on Schönhauser Allee after the first cemetery was full and closed. In this cemetery are buried people who were very important for the life of the Jewish community, cultural life and art in Berlin, German politics, industry and economy. Their life stories describe German history in the 19th century and their attempts to achieve full equality of rights in German society.

We will visit the graves of the painter Max Lieberman and his extensive family, the composer Giacomo Meyerbeer, the banker Gershon von Bleichroeder, the patron of the arts James Simon, the descendants of Moses Mendelssohn, the theologian Leopold Zunz and many others. The duration of the tour is two hours.
