Emil and the Detectives Walking Tour

Erich Kästner’s book “Emil and the Detectives” is a popular and fascinating literary classic to this day. Kästner describes in his first book the plots of Emil who falls asleep on the train from Dresden to Berlin and his money is stolen from him. A group of children from the neighborhood where the writer Erich Kästner lived helps Emil catch the thief. On the tour we will visit the various sites in Berlin where the plot takes place and describe the spirit of the times and the German society of the 1920s and 1930s.
Erich Kästner was not only a wonderful children’s writer, but also an important political writer. How did he experience the seizure of power by the National Socialist Party and how did he deal with the dramatic changes in the country he lived in?
